District Directors Disappear - United States. Internal Revenue Service - Brief Article

California CPA, Nov, 2000

As part of IRS restructuring, the IRS no longer has district directors. This may prove to be an obstacle, as often revenue procedures, regulations or instructions require CPAs to file an election or form with a district director. The IRS' national office is aware of the problem and is working on guidance, which is slated to be issued shortly.

In the interim, Joe Caldarero, technical coordinator for the Northern California District, recommends filing with both the historic geographic district, as well as with the new division created during restructuring.
