Recently, the House of Representatives unanimously approved the Internet Non-Discrimination Act, a two-year extension of the existing moratorium on new, special and discriminatory Internet taxes, that was enacted in 1998.

The moratorium on state and local taxes on Internet access and multiple or discriminatory state and local taxes on electronic commerce has been extended until Nov. 1, 2003. The current grandfather provision permitting Internet access taxes imposed prior to Oct. 1, 1998 remains in place.
