In memoriam: James McDermith - News & Trends - Brief Article

CalCPA member James McDermith died outside of his home in San Bernardino Oct. 25 during the Southern California wildfires, apparently due to smoke inhalation.

McDermith, 70, was born on a farm in Pana, III. He received his accounting degree from Southeast Missouri State, and in 1961, began his accounting firm in San Bernardino. He remained active in the business until selling it in 1998.

McDermith was active in his community, steering the finances of the Immanuel Baptist Church and helping to make it one of the largest ministries in San Bernardino County.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; sons, Rich McDermith of Highland and Ron McDermith of Bishop; daughter, Kim McDermith of Highland; brother, Donald McDermith of Summersville, Mo.; sister, Phylis McAfee of Livermore; and four grandchildren.
