China NetCom Lures Foreign Fund - News Corporation Ltd - Brief Article

A consortium composed of the US-based News Corp. and other financial institutions recently invested $325 million in the China NetCom. The investment accounted for approximately 12 percent of NetCom's shares.

With the completion of the first-phase project, NetCom's broadband high-speed Internet (CNCnet) was put into operation on October 28, 2000.

The 8,000-km network covered 17 cities in southeastern part of the country to provide information transmission and relay. Total bandwidth of the network reached 40 Gbps. A high-speed bandwidth network, which is capable of covering the entire country, will be erected by 2002.
