CityNet Telecommunications Connects Last-Mile Network to LayerOne Optical Transport Exchanges - Brief Article
Fiber Optics Business, July 15, 2001
LayerOne, a provider of Layer One optical transport exchanges and connectivity services, announced that CityNet Telecommunications will participate in LayerOne's NEXUS Optical Distribution Exchanges in top telecom markets throughout North America. CityNet, a leader in building last-mile broadband networks, will connect its dark-fiber to LayerOne Exchanges to provide its carrier customers with easy access to local and long-haul networks.
LayerOne, which provides a centralized market solution for network interconnection and transport exchange, currently operates exchanges in Dallas and Miami. The company is slated to open exchanges in Chicago and St. Louis this quarter to be followed by an additional six facilities by early 2002.
CityNet uses city sewer systems to deliver high-speed dark fiber optic lines directly into the basements of metro-area buildings. As a carrier's carrier, CityNet leases its fiber strands to telecommunications companies, Internet and network service providers, and others, who then offer their own high-speed services to end-users.
