Alloptic extends deep fiber solution to the home with homeG.E.A.R. 1000 - New Products - Brief Article

Fiber Optics Business, Jan 15, 2002

Alloptic, a provider of IP, Gigabit Ethernet fiber optic solutions for access networks, has launched homeG.E.A.R.l000, a fully-converged, Gigabit Ethernet IP optical platform delivering voice, video, and high-speed data to subscribers via a passive optical network. The homeG.E.A.R.1000 builds on and extends the access network footprint of the GigaForce product family by addressing the ever-increasing service provider demand for delivery of revenue-generating, high-bandwidth converged services to residential fiber customers.

The new homeG.E.A.R.l000 is an integral part of the GigaForce system that leverages widely accepted, manageable and flexible Ethernet technologies to deliver Gigabit speed data, toll-quality TDM or VoTP voice, high-quality broadcast, and on-demand video to businesses and residential customers world-wide. For residential fiber subscribers, the homeG.E.A.R1000 delivers a full range of converged fiber-to-the-home service configurations. This extensive feature set includes four l0/l00Base T Ethernet ports, two to four toll-quality telephone circuits, as well as IP multicast video, IP and RF CATV lines all delivered to customers across a fully-symmetrical 1.25 Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network.

Alloptic's FTTH, FTTB and FTT-MDU optical network units (ONUs) all utilize the same edgeG.E.A.R. central office chassis and Element Management System. Like the ONUs, the chassis has a flexible plug-in architecture that allows service providers to incrementally add capacity and services as demand warrants. The homeG.E.A.R.1000 ONU is deployed in a hardened outside plant configuration with battery backup. The homeG.E.A.R.1000 is currently undergoing field trials. General availability is planned for the first quarter of 2002.
