Universities chose LuxN for network solution - Applications - Brief Article
Fiber Optics Business, Oct 31, 2001
LuxN announced that Mid-Atlantic Crossroads (MAX), a multi-state meta-point-of-presence consortium founded by Georgetown University, George Washington University, the University of Maryland, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, have selected LuxN to provide Gigabit Ethernet, OC-12 and OC-48 optical transport equipment. The LuxN WavSystem (WS 3200) architecture enables educational systems to remotely manage bandwidth intensive demands while providing an environment to react quickly to increased capacity needs.
MAX has provisioned a high-performance optical network to enable advanced applications in the region. The proximity of the MAX to Washington, DC places it in an advantageous location to partner with post-secondary education institutions and with federal agencies as well as the business community of DC, Maryland, and Virginia. MAX wanted a metro optical platform that could transport multiple protocols between POPs to connect MAX members to various high-speed national research networks. Deploying LuxN's WDM metro optical platform equipment allows MAX members to access research networks at high speed. LuxN enables university and government institutions to flexibly and cost-effectively connect to a MAX POP and reach a large number of research networks directly rather than requiring individual connections to each.
