Global Crossing Selects Micromuse 's Netcool Suite - communications company to provide management network services - Brief Article

Fiber Optics Business, Dec 15, 2000

Micromuse Inc. announced that Global Crossing has selected the Netcool suite to manage its worldwide IP, voice over Internet protocol (VoW), ATM, frame relay, switches, SONET, and SDH network services.

Global Crossing will implement the Netcool suite to consolidate the management of its entire North American Network Services, Global Crossing UK, and IXnet infrastructure. Global Crossing offers data and voice services over the world's most extensive IP-based fiber optic network, which totals more than 101,000 route miles, serving five continents, 27 countries, and more than 200 major cities.

Global Crossing will utilize Netcool/OMNIbus -- Micromuse's flagship application -- to provide real-time fault management across its network services platform. The solution will consolidate events from more than 30 element management systems that are being used to monitor more than 4,000 network elements, including SONET, ATM, frame relay, switches, and IP. Netcool applications will help consolidate alarms and provide event visibility to every workstation, enabling operations efficiencies across workgroups. In addition, the Netcool suite is a key component of Global Crossing's operations support system (OSS), the customized software platform from which Global Crossing develops, delivers, and manages its network services.
