Yipes Connects Communications and Power Industries to Light-Speed Network - Brief Article
Fiber Optics Business, Dec 15, 2000
Yipes Communications announced that it is providing high-speed managed optical network services to Communications and Power Industries Inc. (CPI), a Palo Alto-based manufacturer of vacuum electron devices used in satellite communications, military, industrial, scientific, and medical applications.
CPI is a world leader in satellite transceivers and high-power microwave transmitters, among other products. Its tubes and amplifiers power most satellite TV uplinks and are used extensively for military radar and electronic countermeasures. They are also used for industrial heating and medical applications such as cancer treatment systems and sterilization of medical supplies and waste.
CPI attempted to make do with a high-cost 513 Kbps frame relay connection to the Internet, but its network ran into a wall as employees attempted to make ever-increasing numbers of large file transfers to partners and customers. So CPI turned to Yipes for a 4 Mbps optical connection to the Internet, burstable to 10 Mbps, for half the price it was paying for the frame relay circuit.
