China's Demand for Optical Fiber to Reach 16 Million km by 2005, According to a New Report by IGI Consulting - Brief Article - Polling Data - Statistical Data Included
Fiber Optics Business, April 30, 2001
China's demand for optical fiber will reach 16 million km by 2005, up from 6.6 million in 1999, a growth rate of over 100 percent and a CAGR of 15 percent per year, according to IGI Consulting's (IGIC) new report, China Telecom Volume 2: Fiber Optic Markets and Opportunities.
China's demand for telecommunications is exploding. China Telecom, China Unicom, China Netcom, China Railcom, and China Mobile continue to build out their nationwide backbone networks. By the end of 2000, a total of 1.25 million km of fiber optic cable and 30 million km of optical fiber were installed.
The rapid installation of backbone networks in China has stimulated demand for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and SDH systems. As China increases its teledensity, and the demand for Internet connectivity and data applications ignites, IGIC predicts that the demand for optical transmission equipment will grow at annual rate of approximately 45 percent.
IGIC forecasts that China's DWDM market will reach $1.5 billion in 2005, up from approximately $185 million in 2000. China is already a world leader in deploying SDH. IGIC predicts China's SDH lead will continue. The company forecasts that the market for SDH will grow at annual rate of 40 percent and skyrocket to over $3.7 billion by 2005, up from $400 million in 1999, and $700 million in 2000.
China Telecom Volume 2: Fiber Optics Markets and Opportunities also takes an in-depth look at the carriers, the equipment vendors, and the domestic optical fiber manufacturing market. The report includes forecasts, charts, and maps depicting China's fiber optic networks and the capacity of those networks. In addition, the report examines the CATV market and points out the recent and upcoming HFC and ADSL tests and trials taking place in the major cities.
In addition to the forecasts, maps, and charts, China Telecom Volume 2: Fiber Optics Markets and Opportunities provides a historical overview of China's telecommunications market, the current construction activities by China Telecom in the submarine cable market, and a comprehensive roadmap of the many government networks and the regulators and their government bodies who are helping China become one of the largest telecommunications markets in the world.
