iBEAM Broadcasting Announces New Pay-Per-View Service - Brief Article

Information Superhighways Newsletter, Oct, 2000

iBEAM Broadcasting Corp. introduced its next-generation Pay-Per-View service, which enables Internet content providers to generate revenue by charging viewers directly for special live and on-demand streaming events, such as sporting events, comedy shows, and concerts.

iBEAM's high-capacity Pay-Per-View service is designed to handle the largest streaming media events on the Internet. The service is one of several advanced streaming applications enabled by iBEAM's sophisticated streaming media network. iBEAM's Pay-Per-View service includes features such as chat and commerce windows that will enable content providers to generate incremental revenues and users to enjoy an experience unavailable via traditional media, such as television or radio.

"The addition of iBEAM's Pay-Per-View service enables us to generate revenue from our content and allows us to offer content to our audience that otherwise we could not make available on the Internet," said Ed Rodrigues, CEO of Rascals International Inc., which streams content via the iBEAM network. "We selected iBEAM because they provide a service that can process many thousands of users in a short time. iBEAM gives us added assurance that no matter how great the interest in our programming, it's unlikely our site will be overwhelmed. That's a secure feeling to have when you're promoting an Internet event featuring a big-name comic."

Pay-Per-View Internet broadcasting is the latest advancement in a line of services iBEAM has designed to enable content providers to generate revenue from Internet streaming media. Other revenue-generating products already offered by iBEAM include Activecast, an interactive Web-casting platform for corporate communications, distance learning, and Web-based seminars, and On-Target, a targeted ad insertion platform for streaming media.

"Streaming media is already a powerful phenomenon, but its true potential will be realized through the deployment of creative and effective tools for generating revenue," said Peter B. Desnoes, president and CEO of iBEAM Broadcasting. "Our world-class streaming media network combined with our new Pay Per View solution is another example of how iBEAM is positioning itself as the leader in the streaming and monetization of Internet content."
