Computer Associates International (CA) announced that Mobistar, a European telecommunications operator, has selected CA Services to extend its successful deployment of Unicenter, empowering the company to seamlessly monitor and manage a new high-performance UNIX platform introduced to the company's IT infrastructure.
Leveraging the expertise of CA Services, along with Unicenter, CA's e-Business infrastructure management solution, Mobistar has quickly deployed the latest enterprise-strength hardware devices and operating systems in support of strategic m-Business (mobile business) growth initiatives
Mobistar, one of the fastest growing telecom companies in Europe, is the Belgian subsidiary of Orange S.A., the international mobile telephone subsidiary of France Telecom. For fiscal year 2000, Mobistar generated over [GRAPHIC EXPRESSION NOT REPRODUCIBLE IN ASCII] 620 million in revenue and enjoyed a growth rate of over 60 percent.
Unicenter has been utilized across multiple Mobistar business units since 1996, enabling the company to manage its entire heterogeneous environment, ensuring the performance and full-time availability of mission-critical systems.
The management capabilities provided by Unicenter were essential to the success of a major IT initiative at Mobistar, which involved the deployment of a high-performance multiprocessor Compaq GS320 server running the Tru64 UNIX enterprise operating system. The new platform was implemented to support expanding lines of business and rapidly increasing mobile telecommunications traffic, including SMS messaging services.
Mobistar engaged CA Services in Belgium to ensure that existing eBusiness management processes facilitated by Unicenter were carefully extended to fully support the new platform in the shortest timeframe possible and with minimal business disruption. A complete team of CA Services consultants partnered with Mobistar staff throughout the three-month migration effort, from conceptual validation to testing, implementation and knowledge transfer.
Based on the success of this and, other joint initiatives, Mobistar is currently evaluating additional utilization of Unicenter to include the performance-enhancing management of innovative new WAP services on customers' mobile phones.
