e-business technology Ships PoliVec Builder - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Information Superhighways Newsletter, Sept, 2001

e-business technology, a Colorado-based security software developer, announced the release and shipment of PoliVec Builder. The software is an automated security policy development tool that helps organizations build a comprehensive security policy. PoliVec Builder uses a series of interactive user interfaces to guide the user through the entire security policy development process. Once the security policy is completed, the user can generate both a policy document and a suite of detailed implementation standards that, when implemented, ensure systems are configured in a manner that is consistent with the intent of the policy.

To improve ease of use, PoliVec Builder is based on four major components:

- Policy Configuration allows users to define a set of global variables that will be used throughout the policy document. These variables include such things as company name, address, organization structure, and approval authorities.

- Policy Categories allows users to choose categories and subcategories for inclusion in their policy document. In addition, Policy Categories include descriptions of each category, a rationale section displaying an explanation of the selected policy category, and an example policy of the selected category.

- Policy Settings allows users to accept a best-practice recommendation for each policy statement or override the value to one that is more applicable to their needs.

- Policy Details allows users to review their policy in a category-by category display that provides them with the complete text for each policy statement, including all policy statements with editable variables. It also displays a rationale/warning for all policy statements.

To assist the user in creating a comprehensive security policy, Rationale Text provides detailed descriptions and justifications of each policy category and each policy statement and includes best-practice recommendations.
