SAAVIS Enhances Intelligent IP Network with Nortel Networks Optical Internet Solutions - Brief Article

SAAVIS Communications, an Intelligent IP networking service provider, has signed an estimated $155 million contract with Nortel Networks to deploy high-performance, next-generation optical Internet solutions.

Over the next 42 months, SAAVIS has agreed to purchase Nortel Networks OPTera Optical Internet solutions -- including Nortel Networks OPTera Long Haul 1600 Optical Line System and Nortel Networks OPTera Connect DX Connection Manager -- to build a flexible, highly reliable optical backbone connecting 50 US and Canadian markets.

SAAVIS is currently implementing Nortel Networks Shasta 5000 Broadband Service Nodes (BSN) throughout its global network, which powers more than 4,700 financial institutions, 75 of the top 100 worldwide banks, and 45 of the top 50 brokerage firms. Nortel Networks will also provide SAAVIS with professional services including program management, engineering and equipment installation, and assistance in building its Network Operations Center for the optical network.
