Korea Thrunet Records the Fastest International Connection Speeds Among All Korean Broadband Internet Service Providers - International - Brief Article
ISP Business, Nov, 2001
Korea Thrunet Co. Ltd., Korea's largest cable modem broadband Internet-access services provider, announced that the Company has recorded the fastest international connection speeds among all Korean broadband ISPs in a series of test conducted this past year by Benchbee (http:// www.benchbee.co.kr), an independent Korean web-based benchmarking company.
The tests required participants - volunteer broadband Internet subscribers - to access the international site. In this case, Thrunet chose Verico, a Californian ISP aimed at helping businesses of all sizes grow and compete through on-line services, over the six-month period of April to September 2001. The site was chosen on the basis of the smooth operation and neutrality of its test servers.
Connections were monitored by Benchbee, and tested on download speed, upload speed, Round Trip Time (RTT) and loss rates.
The average download speed of Thrunet's Multiplus Cable Internet Premium service was 1.11Mbps, which was up to 3.3 times faster than competitors' Cable Pro or ADSL Pro services. Thrunet's average upload speed was 0.59Mbps, while that of other competitors ranged from 0.38 to 0.40Mbps. In terms of RTT, which refers to time taken for data to go to test servers and come back to clients, Thrunet recorded 174.71 milliseconds, compared to other competitor's RTT, ranging between 193.98 - 310.15ms. Lastly, Thrunet recorded 0.71 percent in loss rates, which measure rates of failure to find requested IP-addresses, while its competitors showed loss rates of more than 3 percent.
Thrunet recorded the best performance in the four international connection tests among all Korean broadband ISPs. The Company noted that its timely expansion of capacity for international bandwidth and long-haul backbone, as well as its increased number of cache servers for international sites and content, contributed to its strong performance results.
