EarthLink to Conduct Broadband Trials over Cox' Network - Cox Communications Inc - Brief Article

ISP Business, May, 2001

EarthLink, the second-largest ISP in the world, will conduct a six-month trial of its services over Cox Communications' broadband cable network. Cox is the fifth multiple systems operator (MSO) to work with EarthLink as the cable industry prepares its networks for open access of multiple ISPs. Some of the EarthLink's other partners include AOL Time Warner, Comcast, AT&T Broadband, and Charter Communications.

According to an EarthLink spokesman, the ISP has a definitive agreement with Time Warner, which it doesn't have with the others. Separately, EarthLink will also cut about 12 percent of its workforce, 900 jobs. The company recently acquired OneMain.com, a rural ISP, and is in the midst of selective job replacement.
