Adtran Introduces First Member of Advanta Series of VPN Solutions - Advanta 2100 - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Adtran Inc. announced the introduction of the Advanta 2100 small office gateway. The Advanta 2100 is the first member of Adtran's new Advanta series of VPN solutions. The Advanta 2100 provides several key security and data management features like IPSec VPN tunneling with authenticated remote user access, stateful inspection firewall, network address translation, and routing.

The Advanta 2100 is designed for remote access and site-to-multisite connectivity solutions. Advanta is ideal for corporate branch offices, small office/home offices (SOHOs), and business-to-business applications. This system is IPSec compliant which allows interoperability with other IPSec gateways.

Four key features of the Advanta 2100 are:

- VPN Tunneling: The Advanta 2100 is based on IPSec is for VPN tunneling to provide secure communication over potentially unsecure network components. Acting as a security gateway through the Internet, it provides up to 10 private encryption communication tunnels with remote locations through the Internet. The system also secures IP addresses from the external world by performing network address translation. The unit's integrated router also allows multiple users to share a VPN connection and directs incoming IP traffic.

- Security: This unit provides data security through encryption, authentication, and key exchange. The Advanta 2100 encrypts the data being sent out onto the network, using either the Data Encryption Standard (DES) or 3DES encryption algorithms. In addition, Internet Key Exchange (IKE) can be used for user authentication supporting public and private keys or digital certificates. The Advanta 2100 also employs a stateful inspection firewall that protects a network from common cyber attacks including TCP syn-flooding, IP spoofing, ICMP redirect, ping-of-death, and IP reassembly problems.

- Web-Based Management: This system can easily be configured and managed remotely using a standard Web browser. The unit has built-in alert and logging mechanisms, which allow for prompt notification of inappropriate network activity or problem areas.

- Performance: The Advanta 2100 is a standalone hardware platform that off-loads the CPU intensive encryption process. It offers a dedicated processing platform to drive the encryption process, thereby not affecting local computer performance. This system is optimized to deliver superior performance, while remaining a cost-effective solution.
