ISP Business, July, 2001

Harris Corp. announced that Pacnet, a wireless Internet service provider, will trial Harris ClearBurst MB point-to-multipoint digital radio systems in Tijuana, Mexico. Following a successful trial, commercial service is scheduled to begin this fall in Tijuana and later in Ensenada, Mexicali, and Rosarito. Utilizing spectrum leased from Miditel and operating at 10.5 GHz, Pacnet will offer its customers high-speed Internet access, private circuits, toll-quality voice, and other high-speed data services.

"We believe ClearBurst MB is the best product available for delivering the high-quality services we intend to provide our customers," said Roman Caso, director of sales for Pacnet. "With the combination of the Harris technology and our customer support specialists, the Tijuana region will receive the most reliable and flexible service. ClearBurst offers not only high capacity, efficiency, and cost-effective operation, it also offers quality of service for prioritized data and voice, an important part of our offering and something no other system can do."

In addition to ClearBurst MB base stations and customer units, Harris is providing network integration services, site surveys, RF planning, and training.

"Harris is providing a total solution for us and seamless integration of the Harris ClearBurst MB equipment into our network," said Marco Moran, director of engineering for Pacnet.

ClearBurst MB operates at 3.5 and 10.5 GHz frequencies and is optimized for narrow channel sizes. It utilizes dynamic bandwidth allocation and proprietary media access control forwarding techniques to maximize efficiency and throughput while supporting legacy applications. It is well-suited for data and telephony applications for the small enterprise and home office and provides capacity up to 35 Mbps.
