Speedera and Alteon Team on Global Content Distribution - communication companies - Brief Article

ISP Business, August, 2000

Speedera Networks and Alteon WebSystems announced an alliance under which the companies will collaborate on global content distribution.

Under the alliance, Speedera and Alteon will reference-sell each other's offerings. In addition, Speedera will develop tighter integration between the Speedera global traffic management (GTM) service and Alteon Web switches. This will enable Speedera to make more proactive decisions on routing client requests.

For example, Speedera will incorporate information provided by Alteon Web switches, such as open connections, server health, and other performance metrics specific to local traffic conditions to ensure that user requests are served by the best performing and most available server in any Speedera point-of-presence. Currently no global server load balancing service supports such a capability.

As a result, Speedera customers will receive more intelligent and proactive global load balancing, as well as increased performance and reliability by installing Alteon's Web switches in front of their Web server farms.

Speedera's global load balancing service builds and maintains a worldwide Internet health map based on real-time packet loss, latency, and application-level information collected from probes within its globally deployed Universal Delivery Network. Alteon offers high-performance content-intelligent Web switches that manage both locally and globally distributed server farms and applications.
