Dynarc Introduces ChanServ to Guarantee IP Quality of Service for Dynamic Optical Networks - provider of optical IP network solutions - Brief Article
ISP Business, August, 2000
Dynarc, a provider of next-generation optical IP network solutions, announced the availability of a new channel management services model, ChanServ, for the Dynarc Channelized Reserved Service (CRS) architecture.
This new model combined with the CRS architecture will unleash the full potential of an IP-centric network delivering end-to-end strict quality of service (QoS) guarantees.
Dynarc's new ChanServ model extends the existing benefits of differentiated services (DiffServ) and integrated services (IntServ) by providing a solution that addresses strict resource reservations and aggregation of traffic types. ChanServ fits nicely into the DiffServ/IntServ framework by directly helping ISPs to guarantee end-to-end QoS, featuring IP multicast support, and offering immediate deployment of services including video streaming, VoIP, and digital cable, regardless of the types of traffic.
With Dynarc's inherent channel management capabilities, ChanServ with CRS addresses the allocation issues in typical IP-centric network management scenarios by targeting the channel management structure and provisioning all types of traffic entering the network. These characteristics also ensure easy set-up and tear down of channels, which is less than a millisecond. End-to-end QoS on IP-based networks has never been this easy, strict, or reliable.
Service providers can now focus on revenue-generating opportunities by dynamically managing the network, allocating services, offering bandwidth on-demand, and reserving resources at various switching and routing bit rates.
With ChanServ's filtering capabilities, ISPs can easily manage the slightest traffic variation on the network. For example, an on-line order for an application such as video on-demand can be provided immediately by adjusting the service level for the individual customer. Full control over provisioning also enhances the ability for the ASP to charge per application, thus making room for high margin revenues.
Further, Dynarc's family of interoperable auto-provisioning routers reduces the amount of hardware by integrating add-drop multiplexing, dynamic switching, and IP routing into one scalable box. The result is a pure IP-over-fiber solution capable of carrying legacy voice, video, and data on a single platform.
