Silicon Access Networks Unveils First Complete Chipset for 10 Gigabit Internet Infrastructure - Evaluation
ISP Business, August, 2000
Silicon Access Networks Inc., a network processor start-up company, announced the launch of its new iFlow family of chips for building next-generation Internet core and carrier edge devices. Silicon Access Networks' iFlow products are the first chipsets to provide deep packet processing at the low power, high-performance, and high port density required by advanced IP routing and switching systems in both MAN edge and WAN backbone applications. Silicon Access Networks achieves these unprecedented levels of performance with extremely fast and flexible Smart Memory, which utilizes embedded DRAM, SRAM, and two types of ternary CAM technology. With native support for both 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 0C192, the iFlow family provides all aspects of advanced quality of service (QoS) provisioning, critical accounting and billing functions for highly evolved IP systems in service provider networks.
"As intelligent IP networks begin to dominate Internet backbones and MAN rings, a new class of edge devices become essential to enable the next-generation Internet infrastructure. We've dubbed this new class Fast Intelligent Routers, because both intelligence and line card speeds of 10 G and beyond to support the deep packet processing required for quality of service, billing, and accounting functions in co-location and peering environments," said Perry Constantine, president and CEO of Silicon Access Networks. "With our highly experienced team of memory, processor, and IP network engineers, and our patented Smart Memory technology, we are the only company today which can provide a complete silicon chipset that will enable the Fast Intelligent Router market to become a reality."
