Shandong Unicom Builds out IP City Network with Unisphere Networks' ERX Edge Router - Brief Article
ISP Business, Sept, 2001
Unisphere Networks, a provider of IP infrastructure, announced that Shandong Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom, has selected Unisphere Networks' ERX-1400 Edge Router to build out phase one of Shandong Unicom's new IP City Network. During this first phase of expansion, Shandong Unicom will install the ERX-1400 in seven cities across the province. Unisphere Networks' ERX1400 was chosen for its high scalability along with its ASIC-based architecture that enables wire-speed performance of IP routing and services.
Shandong Unicom, a carrier with more than 2.5 million existing customers, is creating an IP-based city network, offering a complete range of services to customers across the province. Unisphere Networks' ERX-1400 will be used within this network as a broadband remote access server (BRAS) connected to Ethernet Layer 2 switches for residential customers and as an edge routing aggregator for business customers. The ERX-1400 will be setup to face the core of Shandong Unicom's network using MPLS.
