Centennial Dominicana and Lucent technologies complete first 3G CDMA2000 1X wireless data call in Dominican Republic - International - Brief Article

Wireless Internet, Jan, 2002

Centennial Dominicana and Lucent announced the completion of the first third-generation CDMA2000 1X wireless data call in the Dominican Republic. The call is a significant milestone for Centennial's CDMA2000 continuing network expansion. Lucent is supplying equipment for the network under a US$16 million agreement between the two companies.

At Centennial's facilities in Santo Domingo, advanced mobile Internet services, including wireless Web browsing, e-mail and video streaming, were sent and received via laptop computers and PDAs at speeds of up to 153 kbps, about 10 times faster than what is commonly available. The commercial launch of Centennial's CDMA2000 1X service will take place in early 2002 in Santa Domingo.

Lucent has supplied Centennial with CDMA2000 1X channel cards and a packet data platform, Flexent base stations, and mobile switching center equipment and software.
