SONICblue and America Online to Offer E-Mail and AOL Instant Messenger on SONICblue's Diamond Mako Handheld Device - Brief Article

Wireless Internet, March, 2001

America Online and SONICblue Inc. have announced an agreement to enable AOL members to access e-mail and instant messaging via SONICblue's Diamond Mako handheld device.

Under the multi-year agreement, America Online will develop e-mail and instant messaging functionality for SONICblue's Diamond Mako connected organizer, enabling AOL members to send and receive e-mail, and send and receive instant messages using any compatible modem.

As part of the agreement, SONICblue will bundle AOL software in the retail packages of the Diamond Mako, and AOL will promote SONICblue's handheld device on the AOL service. The two companies plan to explore additional ways to leverage their relationship through cross promotions in both retail-based and online environments. The agreement between SONICblue and AOL is an extension of the AOL Anywhere strategy which makes America Online's industry leading brands and features available to online consumers anywhere, anytime, through a range of devices beyond the PC.
