SignalSoft Offers Location Center for GSM Wireless Network Operators - Brief Article

Wireless Internet, August, 2001

SignalSoft announced its newest product, Location Center. Location Center is a standards-compliant gateway mobile location center (GMLC) that enables GSM operators to offer their subscribers location-based services.

Location Center is the combination of SignalSoft's Location Manager, a location gateway that has been successfully installed in wireless networks since 1997, and SignalSoft's Access Manager, which provides privacy and authentication capabilities that exceed GMLC standards.

With Location Center, wireless network operators can expand their voice and data services by turning location into a strategic asset. Location-based services help operators differentiate their offerings, personalize the experience for users, and increase cell phone usage. As a result, average revenue per user increases.

Location Center also maximizes the return on investment for network operators by providing open standard-based interfaces for deploying location-based services across multiple networks.

Location Center capabilities are based upon standards defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (BISI) and exceed GMLC standards in several ways, including:

- Providing an application with a subscriber identifier that it can use to request and receive location information from the GMLC, thereby protecting misuse of the phone number outside of the network

- Increasing subscriber privacy controls with the ability to set day, time, and location parameters

- Intelligently selecting location determination technology based on requested quality of service and availability of technology in the network.
