Skin-care: safer creams

Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, May, 2004 by Judy Kitchen

Editor:

When my father was terminally ill with cancer, the way my mother looked after him was admirable. One of the many things she did was to regularly massage his face and his hands with cream. Daddy had never used any skin lotion but he loved it. He seemed to absorb those massages emotionally as much as physically. They did him a world of good at the time he most needed to feel loved, and they made his skin look much healthier.

No company I know of has a wider range of safe creams than Aubrey Organics of Tampa, Florida (www.aubrey-organics.com) but I would also recommend the creams made by Premier Research Labs of Austin, Texas (www.healthline.cc) and by Nonie of Beverly Hills, California (www.nonieofbeverlyhills.com). Nonie is Hungarian and her creams are based on Old World recipes. All three companies only use nontoxic preservatives such as grapefruit seed extract. The Townsend Letter's excellent February/March 2004 column, Health Risks & Environmental Issues by Rose Marie Williams, MA, on Cosmetic Chemicals and Safer Alternatives explains in comprehensive detail what people need to avoid.
