GSM/GPRS 850MHz network - News in Brief

Telecommunications International, Dec, 2002

Ericsson and Cable & Wireless Panama have said that they have launched the 'first ever' GSM/GPRS 850MHz network. The vendor is the sole supplier of equipment and services for the deployment of the network, which uses existing spectrum to enable the operator to have a 'smooth migration' from TDMA to GSM/GPRS technology.

The network upgrade further means that the Panama operator will be able to offer MMS, LBS and software downloading capabilities to its customers. The network improvement -- according to the two companies -- will also result in Cable & Wireless Panama having an effective roadmap for providing advanced mobile voice and data services in the future.
