3G roaming for Vodafane - News in Brief - Brief Article

Telecommunications International, Feb, 2002

Vodafone has reported that its subsidiaries in Spain (Vodafone) and Japan (J-Phone) have successfully conducted the 'world's first 3G roaming call'. It was made between Vodafone's chief executive in Spain, John de Wit, and the president of J-Phone, Darryl Green. The operator claims that the event successfully demonstrated how a 3G mobile roaming call is transported from its original source to its final point of destination.

It was carried from Vodafone's Spanish 3G network to J-Phone's equivalent in Japan using the signalling links and network of Cable and Wireless (C&W) - the mobile operator's 'preferred' international carrier.
