Smokescreen
New Internationalist, March, 2007 by Boyd Reimer
Much praise to NI for the issue on Ethical shopping.
Here are more eye-openers:
1 2004: Dow Jones Sustainability Index listed British American Tobacco.
2 2005: Jantzi Social Index (partners with Dow Jones Index) research recommended eligibility for Shell 'Canada' (actually 78-per-cent parent-owned).
3 2004: Metro Credit Union advertised that Shell 'Canada' has 'global integrity' and 'exemplifies the values and principles of corporate sustainability'. What bugs me most is that Shell was then big enough to scare that large credit union out of allowing its members easily to share any alternative information.
