Mable E. Gaskins
Mae Gaskins has joined the 12,000-student Lawrence, Mass., district as superintendent following a 14-month stint as an assistant superintendent in St. Paul, Minn. Gaskins earlier worked for Education Alternatives Inc. for five years, most recently as senior vice president. She also has served as interim superintendent in Duluth.
Thomas R. Giblin
After a 10-year stint as superintendent in Guilford, Conn., Tom Giblin has moved into the superintendency in East Lansing, Mich. Giblin spent the previous 10 years as assistant superintendent for educational services in Widefield, Cob. He spent seven years on the faculty at the Colorado Springs campus of University of Colorado.
Arnold B. Goldberg
The 2,300-student Shoreham-Wading River Central Schools on Long Island have a new superintendent in Arnold Goldberg. He previously served as superintendent in three other Long Island school districts: Elmont, Hauppauge and Merrick.
William J. Liebertz
Skip Liebertz has assumed the top berth of the 7,500-student Corvallis, Ore., system after six years as superintendent in Lincoln County, Ore. Liebertz also has served as executive assistant to the superintendent of the Salem-Keizer, Ore., schools. He has taught at Portland State University and University of Oregon.
Virginia Rebar
Virginia Rebar has assumed the superintendency in Columbia, Conn. She served for six months as acting superintendent of the regional school district in Seventeen, Conn., following a 14-year tenure as the first principal of Haddam-Killing worth Middle School in Higganum, Conn. Rebar also was an assistant principal in East Lyme, Conn.
Stewart M. Weinberg
The Fairbanks, Alaska, Public Schools have selected Stewart Weinberg as the district's new superintendent. He had served in the same post in Lawrence, N.Y., since 1991 and was an adjunct professor at C.W. Post and New York University. Earlier, Weinberg was an assistant superintendent and high school principal in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
