Executive Happenings - American Association of School Administrators, elections, conferences

School Administrator, Dec, 1999

The following actions occurred at the AASA Executive Committee meeting on September 24.

Adoption of FY2000 Budget

The FY2000 program plan and budget, which is a zero-based budget, is $10,239,412. Executive Director Paul Houston said that AASA's top four challenges in the coming year(s) are to increase superintendents' recognition of AASA as the "better idea" association; to implement the new mission statement; to develop [and improve] programs and services to attract and meet the needs of school system leaders; and to find additional resources to accomplish the expanded work scope.

Adoption of NASA Focal Points

The Executive Committee adopted the following four focal points for the association:

* Connecting Schools and Communities

* Enhancing the Quality and Effectiveness of School Leaders

* Improving the Condition of Children and Youth

* Preparing Schools and School Systems for the 21st Century

The focal points will be used as guidelines for developing products and services for members.

Presentation of Proposed Platform and Resolutions

The proposed 2000 Platform and Resolutions developed recently by the AASA Resolutions Committee were presented to the Executive Committee. Policy Director Bruce Hunter invited all committees and state associations to comment on the resolutions. There will be an open hearing on the Resolutions on Friday, March 3, 2000, at The National Conference on Education [c]. The final Resolutions will be presented to the Delegate Assembly on Monday, March 6.
