PEOPLE - school superintendents - Brief Article

Larry Jess

After retiring in June 1999, Larry Jess has returned to public education as superintendent of the Hildreth, Neb., Public Schools. He earlier spent seven years as superintendent in David City, Neb. Previously Jess was superintendent of Unified School District 352 in Goodland, Kan., and Unified School District 254 in Medicine Lodge, Kan.

Ricardo Z. Medina

Ricardo Medina has returned to Michigan as superintendent of the Bridgeport-Spaulding Community Schools. Medina had been in California as superintendent of the Central Union High School District in El Centro and assistant superintendent in Blythe. Earlier, he was a state supervisor with the Michigan Department of Education.

David L. Pruneau

After four years as director of instruction for the Brighton, Mich., Area Schools, David Pruneau now serves as district superintendent. His association with Brighton started in 1986 when he became principal of Hornung Elementary School. He previously was a principal in the Lincoln Consolidated Schools in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Dean E. Sanders

Dean Sanders has assumed the superintendency of the Glenwood, Wis., City Schools. He earlier served principalships in the Amery, Wis., Public Schools and the Osseo-Fairchild Schools in Osseo, Wis., where he also was athletic director. Sanders began his career in education in 1981 as a social studies teacher in Reedsburg, Wis.

Patricia T. Torrence

In her 35th year as an educator, Patricia Torrence has become superintendent of the Isle of Wight, Va., County Schools. She previously was a principal and directed federal programs and special education in Buckingham County, Va. Torrence also has worked with the Virginia Department of Education as supervisor of school evaluations.

Marjorie Williams

Marge Williams has been named superintendent of the Hickman Mills School District in Kansas City, Mo. She previously served the district as associate superintendent and directed special education. Williams also directed the Challenge Program for atrisk students and served as co-editor of Programs That Work: Girls Ages 9-16.
