Cheers to All

School Administrator, March, 1994

Even if the school chorus sings off-key and the audience can't hear half the lines in the school play, students must applaud the performance at two intermediate schools in this eastern Massachusetts district.

The Weymouth school board adopted the rule last fall. No boorish behavior triggered the proposal, according to the principals, Christine Collins of South and John Dowling of East. It's just that performers might feel bad if the audience did not clap.

How the schools will enforce the rule is yet to be determined.
