Opening Minds, Opening Doors. - Review - book review

School Administrator, March, 1995 by Joan Butterworth Grady

Opening Minds, Opening Doors by Dan Hull, president of the Center for Occupational Research and Development, is an informative book dealing with many aspects of tech prep.

Tech prep is a program that moves students through grades 11-14 and culminates in an associate degree. Students who go through this program are focused, interested and achieve.

In the book's first section, Hull makes a case for the program. He explains cognitive science and its practical applications and explains how contextual learning in the classroom enhances the potential of students.

Hull offers a clear picture of what a tech prep curriculum might look like. He stresses how to make such a program operational in schools and deals with issues related to secondary schools, community colleges, and the schoolwork integration model.
