Lost in the Snow - Brief Article

School Administrator, March, 1996

Even though many school districts in the Mountaineer State have lost more than two weeks of school because of heavy snow and subsequent flooding, the state superintendent of education has announced they will not need to make up the time.

In citing the state code, Henry Marockie told local school leaders that the closed days would be counted as days of employment and toward the 180-day school term.

Because the state code prohibits the school year from ending later than June 8, Marockie said it would be "impossible to make up the lost days."
