Lynn Batten

The new superintendent in Bulloch County Schools in Statesboro, Ga., is Lynn Batten, who had served since 1994 as superintendent of the Spalding County, Ga., schools. Batten earlier was superintendent in Jenkins County, Ga., for seven years and an assistant superintendent in La Grange, Ga.

James H. Clark

After a three-year stint as the district's assistant superintendent, James Clark has moved into the superintendency of Joliet Township, Ill., High Schools. Clark earlier was principal of Lockport Township High School and assistant principal of Thornton Township High School, both in Illinois.

Wilmer S. Cody

Kentucky's commissioner of education, Wilmer Cody, has been elected president-elect of the Council of Chief State School Officers. He begins his term as president in 1998. Cody also has served as district superintendent in Montgomery County, Md., Birmingham, Ala., and Chapel Hill, N.C.

Margaret E. McCullough

The Edinburg, N.Y, Common School welcomed a new superintendent in January. Margaret McCullough assumed the post after three years as superintendent in Kirtland, Ohio. Previously, she served as assistant superintendent for instruction/personnel in Scotia-Glenville, N.Y, and principal in Beachwood, Ohio.

Velma B. Saire

Following three years as the district's director of instructional services, Velma Saire has moved into the assistant super-intendency of the Quaker Valley School District in Sewickley, Pa. Earlier, Saire was a principal in Darien, Conn., Hanover, N.H., and McKeesport, Pa. She also was a restructuring project specialist.

Elba Santiago

After two years as superintendent in Jackson, Mich., Elba Santiago has become assistant vice president for student affairs and director of student life at Michigan State University. Earlier, she worked as a curriculum director, and bilingual director. She is a board member of the North Central Regional Educational Lab.
