Tom Burnham

After 5 1/2 years as state superintendent of education in Mississippi, Tom Burnham has moved into the executive directorship of the new Gulf Coast Education Initiative, based at University of Southern Mississippi. He earlier served for four years as superintendent in Biloxi, Miss., where he also was a high school principal.

Gene E. Davenport

A former state associate commissioner for educational support in Texas, Gene Davenport has joined The Tesseract Group (formerly Education Alternatives Inc.). as a consultant. Davenport continues to serve as president of Teamship Associates, a Texas-based training firm. He earlier was superintendent in Allen and Levelland, Texas.

Dan R. Dodds

California native Dan Dodds has moved into the superintendency of the Atascadero, Calif., Unified Schools, For the last year, he had been superintendent of the Page, Ariz., Unified School District. Previously, Dodds held the top post in the South Tillamook County, Ore., schools.

Donna L. Henningsen

The new superintendent of the 1,300-student Piano, Ill., Community Unit School District 88 is Donna Henningsen. She formerly served as a shared superintendent of the Sigourney and Keota districts, both in Iowa. Previously, Henningsen was superintendent in Corning, Iowa, and was a principal at the elementary and secondary levels.

Patricia E. Newby

The Grand Rapids, Mich., Public Schools have a new superintendent in Patricia Newby. She has been serving as deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent in the Baltimore City Schools. During her 30-year career, Newby also held administrative postings in the Montgomery County, Md., system and the Los Angeles Unified Schools.

Robert C. Van Zanten

The Yorktown, N.Y., Central Schools have a new superintendent, Robert Van Zanten. He most recently served as superintendent of the River Dell Regional Schools in Oradell, N.J. Van Zanten's earlier positions included the superintendency in Garfield, N.J., and a high school principalship in West New York, N.J.
