Damon F. Asbury
After nine years as superintendent of the Worthington, Ohio, City Schools, Damon Asbury has been named deputy director of Ohio's State Teachers Retirement System. A past president of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, he previously served as associate superintendent and interim superintendent in Columbus, Ohio.
L. Ray Brayboy
Ray Brayboy recently assumed the superintendency of the 5,200-student School District of Marlboro County, S.C. He previously served as superintendent of the Wayne County and Bladen County districts, both in North Carolina. Brayboy earlier was an associate professor of education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Terry R. Kenealy
Terry Kenealy is returning to Nebraska after spending the last 2 1/2 years as superintendent of the Calva-Holstein Community School District in Holstein, Iowa. He is the new superintendent of the York, Neb., Public Schools. Kenealy earlier worked as a principal, assistant principal and activities director. He began as a social studies teacher.
Michael McClaren
After four years at the helm of Fremont County School District No. 25 in Riverton, Wyo., Michael McClaren will assume the superintendency in Claremore, Okla. Earlier he served as superintendent and deputy superintendent of the Woodward, Okla., Public Schools. He also worked as principal, counselor and teacher in Oklahoma.
Jane Qualls
After 30 years in various roles with the Alcoa City, Tenn., Schools, Jane Qualls has moved into the district's superintendency. Most recently she was the supervisor of instruction. Qualls's earlier posts included federal projects director, curriculum coordinator, Chapter 1 director and special education supervisor.
Melvin Smoak
Melvin Smoak recently moved into the superintendency of the Orangeburg, S.C., Consolidated School District Five. He earlier was the assistant superintendent for administrative and student affairs. During his 26 years in public education, he has served as a high school principal, assistant principal, math teacher and basketball coach.
