Robert E. Bartman

Missouri Commissioner of Education Robert Bartman has been elected president of the Council of Chief State School Officers for 1999. Bartman has spent the past 26 years with the state agency, including posts as school laws supervisor and deputy commissioner. He has been commissioner since 1987.

Daniel M. Freeman

The Montgomery County, Ky., schools have a new superintendent, Dan Freeman. He has served previously as superintendent in four school districts: Northwestern Area, Clearfield Area and Fox Chapel Area, all in Pennsylvania, and the Cabarrus County schools in North Carolina. Freeman also teaches at Morehead State University in Kentucky.

Richard E. Mower

After filling a six-month interim posting, Richard Mower has been appointed superintendent in Shiloh, N.J. He will serve concurrently as superintendent of the Greenwich Township, N.J., schools. He has worked since 1964 in New Jersey schools as a teacher, coach and administrator, most of it in Pleasantville.

Frank R. Petruzielo

The 24,000-student Cherokee County, Ga., schools have welcomed a new superintendent, Frank Petruzielo. He had served since 1994 as superintendent in Broward County, Fla. Petruzielo earlier served as superintendent in Houston and as associate superintendent in charge of the Bureau of Professionalization in Dade County, Fla.

Henrietta D. Sakamaki

Following a three-year stint as an assistant superintendent in Milpitas, Calif., Henrietta Sakamaki has assumed the post of associate superintendent for educational services in the 5,000-student Natomas, Calif., schools. Sakamaki earlier worked in administration in the Bakersfield and Franklin-McKinley districts, both in California.

Donald B. Trombley

After spending 10 years as superintendent of the Dryden, N.Y., schools, Don Trombley has moved into the top berth of the nearby Corning-Painted Post district. An educator for 28 years, Trombley also has worked as a superintendent in the FabiusPompey and Glens Falls districts, both in upstate New York.
