The 63,000-student Volusia County, Fla., Public Schools have a new superintendent in veteran Margaret Smith. She previously served as superintendent in two Pennsylvania districts: the Hempfield Area School District in Greenburg and Saucon Valley Schools in Hellertown. Smith also served as Pennsylvania secretary of education, a gubernatorial appointment.
Most recently she worked as deputy superintendent of the Monroe County School District in the Florida Keys.
