As each secret unfolds, examples, stories and tools are provided to help the reader master each skill. Particularly helpful is Chapter 4, in which the author discusses the art of telling a story. Successful leaders are able to paint powerful images to the listeners by providing vivid examples to inspire and to help listeners remember important messages. Mental pictures convey important messages. As the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words."
Readers relate to personal examples. Great leaders are skilled in telling powerful, memorable and actionable stories. Gallo's advice includes: Keep it simple. Some speakers overwhelm their audiences with too much information, too many points of emphasis and poor transition.
The examples in Fire Them Up! Seven Simple Secrets to Inspire Colleagues, Customers and Clients range from National Discovery Teacher of the Year Ron Clark to Travelocity CEO Michelle Peluso to Jason Rhodes, assistant director of housekeeping for the Ritz Carlton.
The stories, the readability of the passages and the encouragement to define your vision make the book enjoyable. Practicing the seven secrets should enable readers to improve their ability to provide leadership and to guide others to reach their potential.
