Nancy Berkompas

Nancy Berkompas has assumed her first superintendency in Rudyard, Mich. She had been a principal with the Chippewa Correctional Facilities in Kincheloe, Mich., after serving as administrative assistant to the warden at Hiawatha Correctional Facility, also in Kincheloe. Berkompas previously taught at several elementary schools.

Percy Clark Jr.

After a brief hiatus from the superintendency, Percy Clark Jr. has taken over the top job at Pasadena, Calif., Unified School District. Clark comes to this position from the Edison Schools and the Ball Foundation, where he served as vice president. He earlier served as superintendent for Lawrence Township schools in Indianapolis.

Duane Noggle

Duane Noggle is the new superintendent of Archuleta School District in Pagosa Springs, Cola. He comes to this position from Window Rock Unified School District in Fort Defiance, Ariz., where he served as the district's director of personnel. Noggle earlier worked for four years as district superintendent in Sanders, Ariz.

Don Phillips

The new superintendent for the 33,000-student Poway, Calif., Unified School District is Don Phillips. He was previously superintendent in Palo Alto, Calif., where he had grown up, and earlier served for seven years as superintendent of the Mountain View-Los Altos, Calif., Union High School District, which was his first superintendency.

Edward Lee Vargas

Returning to California after five years, Edward Vargas takes over the top job at the 24,000-student Hacienda La Puente Unified School District in the City of Industry. Earlier, Vargas was superintendent in Santa Ana, Calif., before moving to Santa Fe, N.M. Most recently, he held the top post of Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, Texas.

Kenneth Voss

The Ambridge, Pa., schools have a new superintendent in Kenneth Voss. He previously served as acting superintendent and assistant superintendent in Union City, Pa. Voss also has worked as a principal at two sites: Catholic Central High School in Steubenville, Ohio, and O'Connell High School in Galveston, Texas. He is a Pittsburgh native.
