Lydia I. Axelrod
A 40-year career in public education concludes this summer with the retirement of Lydia Axelrod. She has served for the past six years as superintendent of the Shelter Island, N.Y., Union Free School District. Earlier, Axelrod was superintendent for seven years in Girard, Pa., and an assistant superintendent in Bethlehem, Pa., and Deer Park, N.Y.
Jan Borelli
Following stints as principal of Southeast High School, a high-tech magnet school, and two middle schools in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jan Borelli has been named to the superintendency of the El Reno, Okla., system. She earlier worked as an assistant principal in Virginia Beach, Va., and director of curriculum in Darlington, S.C.
Joseph A. Haynes
After 4 1/2 years as superintendent in Greenville, Miss., Joe Haynes has moved to the Mississippi Department of Education as associate superintendent for leadership and operations. Previously he was an assistant professor of educational foundations at Jackson State University and deputy superintendent for operations in Jackson, Miss.
Stacy J. Holmes
Following three years as the assistant superintendent for instructional support and technology with the Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services, Stacy Holmes has moved up to the district superintendency. He split the previous 12 years as a superintendent between Little Ferry and Glen Ridge, both in New Jersey.
Lee Jenkins
Lee Jenkins is the new superintendent of Antioch Unified School District in Antioch, Calif. He comes to the new spot after spending 12 years as superintendent in Enterprise School District in Redding, Calif. Jenkins served as the chair of the AASA Federal Policy and Legislation Committee in 1996- 1997.
Lee T. Peterson
The Regional School District 15 in Middle-bury, Conn., has a new superintendent, Lee Peterson. Peterson arrives in his new post after spending 16 years as a school administrator in Arizona, the last eight as superintendent in Avondale. He also was curriculum director in Paradise Valley, Ariz,, and administered Teacher Corps programs in Kansas and Ohio.
