Sue F. Burgess

The Spotsylvania County, Va., school board has named Sue Burgess its new superintendent. Burgess had been superintendent in King William County, Va. Earlier she was dean of instructional leadership in Hanover County, Va. Harold Webb Associates handled the school board's search.

Loren G. Burton

A 32-year career in the Granite School District concludes this month for Loren Burton, who is retiring after eight years as superintendent. His previous positions with the Salt Lake City-based district included assistant superintendent, junior high principal, counselor, teacher, and coach. He was Utah superintendent of the year in 1994.

Ronald Cheek

After 20 years as director of pupil personnel of the Spencer County School District in Taylorsville, Ky., Ronald "Woodie" Cheek has moved into the superintendency of the Wolfe County district, based in Campton, Ky. Cheek is a past president of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.

Vincent C. Cibbarelli

Vince Cibbarelli retires this month as executive director of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and faculty member at University of Virginia's Curry School of Education. He earlier was superintendent in Charlottesville, Va., for seven years and deputy superintendent in the Virginia Department of Education.

Priscilla L. Feir

The Muncy, Pa., schools recently appointed Priscilla Feir to the superintendency. She previously spent 5 1/2 years as assistant superintendent of the Derry Township School District in Hershey, Pa., and was an elementary principal and acting assistant superintendent in Manheim, Pa., Central Schools.

Gerald N. Tirozzi

The new assistant U.S. secretary for elementary and secondary education is Gerald Tirozzi. He most recently was a professor of educational leadership at University of Connecticut. Tirozzi also spent eight years as Connecticut state commissioner of education and was superintendent of the New Haven, Conn., system for six years.
