Site-Level Decisions - site-based decision-making in school administration - Brief Article
School Administrator, June, 1997
How widespread is site-based decision making in schools?
A new Issue Brief from the U.S. Department of Education says site-based decisions are in evidence in every state, though the degree varies widely.
The two-page document reports on the percentage of public schools that report having a site-based council responsible for decisions. West Virginia tops the list at 86 percent with Nebraska at the bottom at 22 percent.
Other findings included:
* 96 percent of the site councils included the principal or vice-principal. Only 28 percent of the councils included student participants.
