Janet Barry
After four years at the helm of the Central Kitsap School District in Silverdale, Wash., Janet Barry will move this summer into the superintendency of the Issaquah, Wash., schools. Barry, 52, is the 1996 National Superintendent of the Year. A Chicago native, she worked as a principal in Arizona before moving north.
Richard C. Benjamin
Following a five-year stint running the Metro Nashville, Tenn., Public Schools, Richard Benjamin moved in mid-March into the superintendency in Cobb County, Ga. He previously was superintendent in Ann Arbor, Mich., for eight years and a central-office administrator in Fort Worth, Texas, and Lansing, Mich.

The 155,000-student Dallas, Texas, district has a new superintendent, Yvonne Gonzalez. The Texas native joined the district in April 1996 as deputy superintendent after spending the previous two years as superintendent in Santa Fe, N.M. Gonzalez earlier was associate superintendent in Houston.
Steven O. Laing
The Utah State Office of Education has appointed Steve Laing as a new associate superintendent. Laing had served since 1990 as superintendent in Box Elder County, Utah. He also has been an adjunct instructor at Utah State University. Laing joined the administrative ranks in 1979 as an assistant principal.
Elsie Leak
The North Carolina State Board of Education has named Elsie Leak as director of the Division of School Improvement. She spent the previous 31/4 years in Durham, N.C., as deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent for instructional outcomes. Earlier, Leak worked in High Point, N.C.
Paul D. Rice
After 5 1/2 years as superintendent in Franklin County, Ky., Paul Rice has moved back to New England as superintendent of Maine School Administrative District 71 in Kennebunk. Rice previously spent 13 1/2 years in School Administrator Unit 32 in Lebanon, N.H., as assistant superintendent and superintendent.
