Michael O. Emlaw

After 30 years as a superintendent, Mike Emlaw will join the headquarters staff of the Michigan Association of School Administrators this summer in an administrative role. A past president of MASA, he has served since 1986 as superintendent of the Washtenaw Intermediate District in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Beverly L. Hall

With 28 years of experience in urban schools, Beverly Hall this summer will assume the superintendency in Atlanta. She has served as the state-appointed superintendent in Newark, N.J., since July 1995 and earlier was deputy chancellor for instruction in the New York City Public Schools. Hall also was a principal in New York City.

Denise Hexom

After 2 1/2 years as superintendent in East Haven, Conn., Denise Hexom is returning to California as superintendent of the Sanger Unified School District. She had spent three years as assistant superintendent in the West Placer Unified Schools in Lincoln, Calif., and was a principal in the Center, Calif., district.

Gloria L. Johnston

After 5 1/2 years as superintendent of the Banning, Calif., Unified Schools, Gloria Johnston has assumed the top position in the West Contra Costa district in Richmond, Calif. Johnston earlier was director of learning support in Poway, Calif., and a principal, director of bilingual education and a teacher in Elgin, Ill.

Jacob Ludes III

A 10-year stint as superintendent in Montville, Conn., is ending for Jacob Ludes, who is joining the New England Association of Schools and Colleges as chief executive officer on July 1. He served as president of the accrediting body, based in Bedford, Mass., in 1997. Ludes earlier spent 11 years N as principal of Manchester High School.

Beverly L. Ouderkirk

The new superintendent of the Genesee-Livingston-Steuben-Wyoming BOCES, located southwest of Rochester, N.Y., is Beverly Ouderkirk. She had served as superintendent in three New York districts: Morristown, Tioga and Valley Central. Ouderkirk also worked as deputy superintendent and a principal in Gouverneur, N.Y.
