Richard J. Brockel

After almost eight years as assistant superintendent in Fort Lee, N.J., Richard Brockel has moved into the superintendency of the Wood-Ridge, N.J. schools. His earlier experience included Saturday school director and instructional supervisor. Brockel's doctoral dissertation received an award from AASA for outstanding research.

Curman L. Gaines

A seven-year stint as superintendent in St. Paul, Minn., concluded this summer for Curman Gaines, who has joined Sylvan Learning Systems as a regional vice president in Atlanta. Gaines, who was a member of the AASA Executive Committee, earlier worked as deputy commissioner with the Minnesota Department of Education.

Joyce A. Hackett

The newly unified Catholic Diocese of Sioux City, Iowa, has named its first superintendent, Joyce Hackett. She spent the past four years as superintendent in the Dallas, Ill., Community Unit District 336. Earlier, Hackett was the assistant director of special education in the Bi-County Special Education Cooperative in Illinois.

Alice D. Parker

The California Department of Education has a new director of special education in Alice Parker. She had been director of student services in the San Mateo-Foster City, Calif., district. Earlier, Parker worked in the San Mateo County schools as education services manager, principal and teacher. Parker also has written a children's book.

James J. Ritchie

The University of Bridgeport has named James Ritchie the dean of the School of Education and Human Resources. Ritchie had been superintendent in Plainville, Conn,, since 1984. Earlier, he worked as director of finance and administration for Regional School District 5 in Woodbridge, Conn., and assistant principal at Amity High.

Charles A. Rohn

Following an 11-year stint in the superintendency, Charles Rohn is moving this fall into an associate professorship of educational administration at University of Montevallo in Alabama. Rohn spent the last five years as chief of the Lebanon, Ill., district. Earlier he was superintendent in Waverly, Ill., and a vocational director in Springfield, Ill.
