Free No More - Fort Worth Independent School District to begin charging tuition to out-of-district students - Brief Article
School Administrator, Sept, 1995
Nearly six percent of enrollment in the Fort Worth Independent School District in recent years has come from out-of-district students attending the district's 12 magnet schools. They've attended the accelerated programs without charge for 15 years to achieve racial balance in the district.
But the free ride is over. Beginning next fall, the school board will require tuition for the out-of-district students enrolled in the magnets as a new source of needed revenue.
Dennis Dunkins, the district's magnet planning director, disappointed by the as-yet undetermined fee, says he expects enrollment from outside Fort Worth will drop sharply as a result.
