2003 AASA President-elect/Executive Committee elections under way - A Supplement to the School Administrator - Brief Article

School Administrator, Sept, 2002

If you are interested in serving as AASA's President-elect or as a member of AASA's Executive Committee, now's the time to get started. The first step toward running for office is to notify your chartered affiliate (state affiliate) executive director and AASA Executive Director Paul Houston (phouston@aasa.org) of your intention to file for candidacy.

AASA will be filling two positions on the Executive Committee as well as the office of President-elect during the 2003 election.

All potential candidates should review the election guidelines. The guidelines, chartered affiliate contact info, and a list of frequently asked questions about presidential offices and Executive Committee membership are available at AASA Online (www.aasa.org).

After notifying your chartered affiliate and AASA of your intent to run for office, you will be sent a candidate filing packet outlining all election rules and procedures. Candidates must return the completed packet, along with the $1,000 filing fee, to AASA (1801 N. Moore Street, Arlington, VA 22209, attn: Elections) by 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002. (Your chartered affiliate may pay all or part of the filing fee.)

After Oct. 1, 2002, information about candidates will be posted on AASA Online and printed in the AASA Bulletin. Ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters immediately following the 2003 National Conference on Education in February 2003; winners will be notified and announced in March.

For more information or to obtain a candidate filing packet prior to making your intention to file known to your chartered affiliate and AASA, contact C.J. Reid, AASA director of affiliate/member services, via e-mail at creid@aasa.org or at 703-875-0741.
